Setting & Location

  • The image shows a simple, cartoon-style drawing of two mountains. The mountains are depicted with triangular shapes and jagged peaks, suggesting a rugged terrain. Dashed lines adorn the sides of the mountains, possibly representing snow or rocky textures. The drawing is done in a single color, giving it a minimalist and somewhat childlike appearance. The overall impression is one of a basic, almost iconic representation of mountains. Mountains

What You’ll Learn

Forge an epic adventure! On Outward Bound courses for high schoolers, you’ll make new friends and face exciting new challenges together while building communication and leadership skills that help your group soar to new heights!

What You'll Do

Alpine backpacking courses travel off established trails across talus, boulder fields, and sometimes snow. Peaks climbed don’t require ropes but may need hands for balance. Expect creek crossings without bridges, adding to the adventure and challenge.

Where You'll Be

Courses in Sequoia-Kings Canyon cover more miles daily at higher elevations. With granite domes as your backdrop, no roads in sight, you’ll sleep under bright starry skies, immersed in the untouched beauty of the Sierra.

Why It Matters

High school is hard work – take a break and do something memorable! You’ll explore new places, make friends, and learn skills that will expand your belief in what’s possible. We are crew, not passengers which means you’ll share responsibility for your crew’s success through teamwork, communication, and leadership. Let’s go!

CB27 Pull Quotes

Nothing will be like the 2 weeks I spent in the Sierra Nevadas backpacking, making friends, eating good food, smelling the trees, and being unattached from my phone and any other responsibilities I had at home. If I had the ability to go back in time to any moment, it would definitely be this one.

Caroline

Student

I learned so much on this  trip. Not only did I learn compassion for others, but also for myself. I made so many new friends and got to experience so many new things. It taught me that if I push myself, I can do whatever I put my mind to. This course is definitely something I will remember forever.

Jayla

When my daughter came home, she said it was the hardest thing she’s ever done but also the best experience of her life. She was so proud of herself. I see a new confidence in her now.
