Schools and organizations

Our programs help students embrace physical and emotional challenges in a group of their peers, find space for reflection, and cultivate skills like confidence and compassion that enable them to contribute to meaningful change in their communities and the world.

Educational Approach

Outward Bound programs invite young people and adults to step into challenge, responsibility, and reflection. Through real experiences—navigating uncertainty, working as a team, and practicing compassion—participants build skills that support meaningful growth.

These skills show up long after course: in school, work, relationships, and community life.

Impact is measured through the Domains of Thriving — a framework informed by decades of research and participant self-reports that reflect sustained growth over time.

Program Types

We bring this educational approach to life through programs designed for different groups, goals, and time commitments.

1-Day Programs

San Francisco · Joshua Tree
Challenge Course experiences in San Francisco or single-day rock climbing programs in Joshua Tree—ideal for teams and groups with limited time.

Overnight Programs

Joshua Tree · High Sierra
Basecamp programs (stay in one location with day trips) or expedition-style courses (travel with all gear). Rock climbing and/or backpacking experiences in California’s desert and alpine landscapes.

The students who go on course discover how to connect with one another, create traditions around meals and are encouraged to reach new heights. They then bring those skills back to camp and ultimately, back home. The older students return with confidence, ready to be role models for the next generation of campers. We are excited to see our partnership with Outward Bound grow.
