Where We Learn

Our programs take root in a range of environments that help participants build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. From the granite cliffs and island-studded seas of Maine to the vibrant rainforests and tropical waters in Costa Rica, our classrooms span coasts, mountains, and cultures—where sailing, climbing, paddling, trekking, and cultural immersion turn the world itself into the teacher.

Maine Coast & Islands

During the summer season, we run sailing programs for ages 14+ in Maine. The coast of Maine, with its intricate and indented shoreline, is a unique segment of the North Atlantic seaboard. It is renowned among sailors for its picturesque beauty, abundant bays and harbors, rocky islands, and quiet coves.

Maine Mountains, Lakes & Rivers

Students on our backpacking & canoeing courses will travel through the mountains of western Maine and northern New Hampshire, hiking through spruce-fir and hardwood forests and canoeing in the upper reaches of the Androscoggin watershed.

Costa Rica & Panama

The coastal and river environments of Costa Rica and Panama provide a perfect backdrop to expand wilderness travel skills. Whether it’s trekking through rainforests, surfing tropical beaches, exploring underwater coral reefs, or learning about the local culture through group homestays, these areas provide an experience unlike anything else.

The Bahamas

The long thin islands of the Bahamas archipelago, laced with white and pink sand beaches, provide an exceptional course area for our Maine to Bahamas Leadership Semester students to explore above and beneath the turquoise waters as they kayak, scuba, and immerse themselves in the Caribbean culture.
