The Spirit of the River Rock: A Tribute to Margo Nottoli

In 1970, a 19-year-old named Margo Nottoli walked through the fog at Table Rock Base Camp and said yes to Outward Bound. That moment of wonder marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to experiential education, quiet leadership, and service to others. More than five decades later, Margo’s extraordinary impact was honored with the Spirit of the River Rock Resolution, recognizing her character, steadfast leadership, and enduring influence on North Carolina Outward Bound School.

Written by longtime NCOBS leader and dear friend Deb Follo Caughron, this story reflects on Margo’s journey and the legacy she leaves behind.
