Why AEE Accreditation

AEE accreditation signifies that POBS meets or exceeds industry standards and that our work has been independently reviewed and verified as high quality, with strong administrative, operational, and oversight practices.

In 2016, POBS pursued AEE accreditation to extend our review of standards beyond internal and Outward Bound USA processes. This decision opened our organization to outside industry experts for a comprehensive assessment of safety plans, operations, governance, logistics, staff training, and organizational culture.

The accreditation process included completion of the AEE Self-Assessment Survey, a multi-day in-person review by an independent team of experiential education practitioners and field experts, and a formal written response addressing findings and opportunities for improvement.

AEE accreditation reinforces POBS’s commitment to continually strengthening our programs and operations through ongoing evaluation and improvement. It also signals to staff, partners, and supporters that we welcome external review, act on feedback, and maintain careful oversight as we serve youth and communities across the region.

This commitment has been affirmed over time. In 2017, following a full review process, POBS was awarded a three-year accreditation. In 2022, building on that work and navigating the challenges of the pandemic, POBS completed another comprehensive review and was awarded a six-year reaccreditation through 2028.
