Why Partner with Outward Bound?

Spark lifelong growth through challenge – outside.

Outward Bound programs inspire students to see how much they are capable of.

Through outdoor activities like canoeing, rock climbing, nordic skiing, and dog sledding, students practice leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Skills vital to their lives at home, school, and beyond.

Students report feeling more connected to their peers, and empowered with confidence after a Group Program with Outward Bound.

Our Programs

We facilitate a variety of programs with our partner organizations. Explore the options below

Insight Single Day

+ -

Our INSIGHT programs bring high quality and accessible character development to your learning community. We meet your participants where they are at with flexible neighborhood and near wilderness day experiences delivered inside the school day or on the weekend.

During this 1-day program we’ll facilitate team building, canoeing, rock climbing, wilderness skills, or winter skills with your group of students.

An Insight day can be an introductory experience to an Insight Series or Expedition, or a stand alone experience.

Schools often connect an Insight day to their school goals, like creating more belonging among a class or group of students

Designed for students age 12 and up

Insight Series

+ -

Our Insight Series goes deeper than a single day, and provides 4-6 program days throughout the school year in the St. Paul and Minneapolis communities.

Program days are a progression that supports students delving deeper into building confidence, character and teamwork skills.

Typically we offer 2-3 days in the fall that include rock climbing, team building, and wilderness skills. Then 2-3 days in the spring that include winter skills, cross country skiing, and canoeing

Insight series are designed for intact groups of 10-20 students within a school or organization. Ideally the same group comes to each program day to experience the growth and learning that happens over time.

Designed for students age 12 and up

Expeditions

The image shows four people canoeing on a lake. They are all wearing life jackets. The person in the front canoe is wearing a hat. The water is choppy and the sky is cloudy. There are trees in the background.

Our Group Expeditions are an opportunity for groups of 7-10 students to go out canoeing, hiking, or dog sledding for 6-8 days.

We travel on the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers, Superior Hiking Trail, and in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Two VOBS instructors lead the trip, and the students have an immersive experience in the outdoors that builds their confidence, leadership and character.

“We are heavily invested in student well-being. We partner with Outward Bound to give students a chance to address their emotional strengths and needs, reconnect with their personal values, and connect with other students for discovery and community. Social and emotional skill work and community building is foundational to well-being, and it makes a big difference in student success and the quality of campus life.”
