CB27 Pull Quotes
A group of young people wearing helmets are gathered on a rocky, wooded hillside. Some are sitting on the rocks, while others are standing. They appear to be preparing for or taking a break from a climbing or outdoor adventure activity. The scene is set in a natural environment with trees and large rock formations.

We see increased social connections and personal confidence and pride when they return. Outward Bound allows for so many unique experiences including connecting with nature, learning to work as a team, fostering independence, emotional growth, and being able to unplug from the real world and grow in nature.

Developmentally Aligned Curriculum

Our programs meet students where they are. Whether your students join us for a day or a week, our expert instructors tailor challenges, facilitation, and reflection practices to match the developmental needs of each age group. This approach ensures every student can access meaningful growth—building the specific skills and confidence they need at this stage of their lives.

Middle School (Ages 12-14): Bravery Meets Belonging

+ -

Young teens are building their sense of self while learning how to navigate peer relationships and new social dynamics. Our middle school programs create space for students to discover their own bravery while feeling valued as part of a supportive crew.

Students take on age-appropriate challenges designed to activate their strengths, develop persistence, and show them what they’re capable of—even when things get tough. They practice key skills like communication, taking initiative, and problem-solving with purpose, learning to make choices and take responsibility for them.

Crew is everything at this age. Students explore common ground with peers while learning how to acknowledge each other’s uniqueness in a group where every voice matters. They face challenges as a supportive team, building the foundations for strong, lasting friendships.

High School (Ages 14-16): Connection and Leadership

+ -

These students are refining their identity and testing their independence while becoming more aware of their role in groups and communities. Our programs for younger high schoolers focus on developing authentic connections, finding their voice, and learning to lead and support others.

Students discover how their voice matters to their crew’s success. They practice balancing healthy risks as they face challenges together, learning to own their perspective while genuinely considering the viewpoints of their crewmates. Through moments of both harmony and productive struggle, they explore big questions about identity and belonging.

Your students’ unique personalities are valued as they practice the communication skills necessary to make everyone feel safe and cared for while working together. They learn how to be thoughtful about their actions and words, discovering how individual contributions shape group success.

High School (Ages 16-18): Preparing to Launch

+ -

Older teens are on the cusp of major life transitions—whether heading to college, entering the workforce, or navigating the final years of high school. Our programs help them practice essential life skills while building the confidence and self-knowledge they’ll need for what comes next.

Students and their crew learn how to support each other’s success, boldly tackling challenges and persevering together through epic adventures. Our skilled instructors protect the time and space students need to recognize their own strengths while considering the strengths of others—a crucial skill for thriving in diverse environments.

Whether students are getting ready for a big transition or have another year or two before turning the page into a new chapter, they leave having practiced important skills that help them be successful in both this adventure and the next. They develop valuable teamwork abilities, establish thoughtful communities, and learn how to both lead and support their groups through reflection and real-world practice.

CB05 Mix Impact Block

Teaching, Learning, and Growing, Side by Side

Our programs are built to help students—and educators—develop confidence, empathy, and the tools to relate to and work with others effectively. The experience fosters community, builds connection, and deepens respect.

A woman is cooking outdoors, smiling as she stirs a pot of food over a portable stove. She's wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt and dark pants, suggesting she's camping or hiking. The cooking setup is on the ground, with a red propane tank nearby. The background shows a forest setting with trees and sunlight filtering through the leaves.
